I'm Cassidy, a writer and game developer who graduated from the Media Arts & Game Development (MAGD) program at UW-Whitewater. I use "Cass Aleatory" as my pen-name across a variety of multimedia projects. I've been working outside the game industry these past few years, but soon, the dead will return.
Group Project Updates:
Cliffhanger is a finished product. Neither System Overload nor End of The Party are currently moving any further in development. All three will remain available on itch.io, unless or until my co-developers request otherwise.
Solo Project Updates:
I've taken down a few projects, but many will be getting updates, too! For the sake of closure, here's what the future looks like for each of my games:
A Semi Truck Ride with Disaster — Restricted; the story didn't have much to say outside of a specific context now relegated to the past. I may re-release it in the future if I come up with another story suitable for its unique framework.
AGLST (Anime Girl Laser Space Tank) — Development permanently suspended; I retired my erstwhile flagship project on account of my evolving thoughts on AI-generated content. AGLST's page now features an epithet that can provide more detailed closure, but I'll be taking the page down soon. There's a small chance I'll revisit the concept one day, but I'd be starting from scratch with an entirely new development ethos.
Cross Back — Restricted; this game is very personal, and it includes more than I'd like to be sharing right now—privacy on the internet isn't in a great place these days. When things get better, this game will return with better audiovisual content and the same sweet story.
ESCAPE — Expansion in development; some six years after its release, the story of ESCAPE will soon be built out in full. Expect new characters, locations, dialogue trees, and narrative possibilities. Decisions will matter more, characterization will be improved, and the trust/closeness system will be overhauled.
A conclusion worthy of what making this game has meant to me:
ESCAPE: Ultimate
by Cass Aleatory with sadie ng
Release Date: TBA
Exarch — Never had an itch.io page; this was slated to be my original flagship project, but I never got a chance to start working on it in earnest. For now, just know that I haven't forgotten about it, and it may yet be developed.
Log Lady: Twin Peaks — Down for maintenance; in light of the Unity exploit, I'll be rebuilding this with a patched version of Unity when I can. I'll probably take this opportunity to do my planned revisiting of the game in light of David Lynch's passing. This means the game could be down for a good while, but when it returns, both the dialogue pertaining to Lynch and the content of Sierra's secret ending will have received a substantial relift.
TL;DR: this update has jumped ahead of ESCAPE: Ultimate in my priority queue.
Look Closer — Expansion confirmed; this is consistently the most popular of my projects, so why not explore its world more thoroughly? Expect 'character' development for the signature mechanic, new quests, new characters, and dragons. More dragons. This game will expand a quest or two at a time, deconstructing many of the genre's iconic tropes as it goes.

These are my favorite complete, story-driven games on itch.io.
